Contest Steps

  • Organise students into groups of 15-20 according to their age and level of English and ask them to choose a name for their group

  • Each student reads a different CLIL reader using both the book and the digital application, solves the exercises and sends the answers by email to the teacher from within the digital application.

  • Each student in the group designs his/her encyclopaedia page as a follow up activity and in groups of four tells the group about the amazing facts she/ he has learnt from the book

  • The design of the encyclopaedia page consists of a piece of information about the most amazing fact related to the topic of the reader and an illustration related to it. The info is to be presented as a non-fiction, documentary-style written text and the illustration must be drawn/ painted by the students. It can be decorated with different craftwork materials. 

  • Primary school students’ projects should be designed on A5/A4 format paper; number of words: 60 – 90

  • Lower/ upper secondary students’ projects should be designed on A4 format paper; number of words: 120 – 150



  • Each encyclopaedia page must be given an appropriate title

  • Collect all the pages and have students bind them together in alphabetical order of the topics

  • Ask the group of students to design the front and back cover of their encyclopaedia. Don’t forget to write the names of the authors!

  • Scan the whole book to send it to us in .pdf format by e-mail. You can use the Cam Scanner Application you can download for free from the App store or Play Store on your phone, and choose .pdf format as the document format sending option.

  • Fill in the registration form, providing the name of the group that has designed the encyclopaedia, the number of students in the group, the name of the coordinating teacher, school, town, the teacher’s e-mail address and phone number and send it to us by e-mail together with the .pdf format of the students’ project!  Send it to

  • Get ready to receive a surprise present for each group that participated in the contest! 

  • All the encyclopaedias will be posted on our website for a month and you will have the chance to vote for the most beautifully illustrated one, the most amazing fact presented, the most interesting encyclopaedia. Winners will also receive presents!


Contest suggestions

  • Organise a ‘My first Illustrated Encyclopaedia’ project exhibition and invite teachers and parents to attend the exhibition.

  • Organise an auction inviting parents to buy the encyclopaedias and donate the money to children in need.

  • If time allows, have each child design his/her own encyclopaedia by exchanging readers and reading as many as they can (individual end product). They should design an encyclopaedia page based on each reader, bind all the pages together and design the cover.

  • You can have the same group design more encyclopaedia books, provided they exchange readers and design other CLIL pages to bind together as a group end product.

  • Ask students to solve the exercises in the digital apps and send the answers to your e-mail directly from the application.


Contest deadlines

You can e-mail projects by the end of every winter month, no later than February 28, 2018.



Contest Rewards

  • Surprise present for each group that enters the contest (group end product) and the coordinating teacher. 

  • Surprise present for each student that participates with her/his own project (individual end product) and the coordinating teacher.

  • Prize draws at the end of each month for groups/ individuals and the coordinating teacher.

  • Final prizes for the most stunning picture, the most amazing fact, the most appealing encyclopaedia, based on votes on our website, both to students and the coordinating teacher.

  • A Project Coordinator Certificate will be awarded to all coordinating teachers.


Contest Evaluation 

All projects that respect the indicated layout, the required number of words and accuracy of information will be posted on our website. You can invite students, parents and teachers to vote for the ones they like most. We will count the votes and give prizes to the ones that have the most votes.

The digital CLIL reader application can be downloaded on 3 devices (laptop/ desktop, smart phone, tablet). 

Students have access to karaoke reading, a digital audio-visual dictionary, a collection of additional cross-curricular activities as well as captivating videos that support and extend the topic of the reader.
